In history, as in life, truth is everything.
About Pettaugh
Pettaugh, pronounced ‘Petta’ by local people, is a small Suffolk village in the eastern part of the county, about 10 miles north of Ipswich. The houses and farms are stretched out in a ribbon-like fashion along two roads, one linking Coddenham and Debenham and the A1120 linking Stowmarket and Yoxford.
The History
Pettaugh, which is mentioned in the Domesday book, is situated beside a Roman road which runs from the river crossing near Ipswich towards the east coast and Dunwich.
Welcome to Pettaugh History.
Pettaugh History Society was set up in 2009 by Dr. Hilary Marlow and Richard Clark, initially as a ‘vehicle’ to help publish their first book ‘Pettaugh Preserved’.
A constitution and committee was set up in April 2009 with the intention of carrying out further research into the history of the village and surroundings.
Membership is now open to all and we hold regular meetings and talks of local interest.
